Friendly small town not far from the Lancashire/Yorkshire border.  Prior to the 1974 county boundary changes, Barnoldswick was in Yorkshire before becoming part of east Lancashire.  Barnoldswick is on the summit pound of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and there is a helpful marina here, Lower Park.
The town is home to Silentnight Beds which was the scene of the longest strike in British trade union history occurring between 1985 and 1987, an event which was little reported, especially as it was overshadowed by the more bitter 1984-85 Miners' Strike which overlapped the Silentnight dispute.
One of the country's oldest stove manufacturers, Esse is also based in Barnoldswick and it's clients have included Florence Nightengale, Ernest Shackleton and Sir Robert Falcon Scott.
Barnoldswick's largest employer is Rolls Royce who has one of their factories here.
Industrial heritage in this former mill town can be viewed at the Bancroft Mill Engine.
The Michael Palin film, A Private Function was filmed in and around Barnoldswick and dealt with the problems of food rationing in the wake of World War II.
The town has a number of pubs the best of which is the Greyhound where regular live music can be enjoyed Saturday evenings and Sunday teatime.
