NIDDERDALE

Nidderdale
Nidderdale from Middlesmoor

Although not included in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Nidderdale is an attractive dale which packs a lot into it. Running along the eastern boundary of the National Park this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to caves, mines,
Gouthwaite Reservoirreservoirs and attractive villages.  The River Nidd runs through the dale flowing from Angram and Scar House Reservoirs and through Gouthwaite Reservoir before reaching Pateley Bridge.  After Pateley Bridge the river meanders in a south-easterly direction before emptying into the River Ouse at Nun Monkton near Knaresborough.
Greenhow Hill is home to several interesting lead mine, some levels are accessible without any difficulty but the Gillfield Level is gated and a key is required.
How Stean Gorge offers recreation for the outdoor enthusiast including canoeing, rock climbing, via ferrata and caving.
A great view of Nidderdale can be had from Middlesmoor at the head of the valley.
