Situated to the east of the  Yorkshire Dales National Park  is Nidderdale,  an Area of Outstanding Natural  Beauty.  At the
heart of Nidderdale is the small town of Pateley Bridge, halfway between
Grassington  and  Ripon.   Near the head of
Nidderdale  is How Stean Gorge  where a  variety  of
activities, rock climbing, via ferrata and caving can be enjoyed.
Gouthwaite Reservoir is located
between  Pateley Bridge  and  Ramsgill and  there  are several  other reservoirs  nearby.
Lead
mining  took  place  on  Greenhow Hill  above  Pateley Bridge  on  the  road  to Grassington and there  are  other
interesting  features,  notably  Brimham Rocks  and Coldstones Cut.
