Waddington showing the Methodist Church
A
large village to the north of Clitheroe, Waddington lies at the foot of
it's eponymous fell, the road leading through the village and over the
fell providing an entertaining route into the Forest of Bowland.
A regular winner of the Lancashire Best Kept Village awards,
Waddington has an Anglican Church, St. Helens as well a a Methodist
church. The village green has a water pump and is bordered by Waddington Almshouses. Waddington Brook flows through the heart of the village. Nearby
is Waddow Hall, set in 178 acres (72ha) of estate, it serves as a
conference and activity centre for Girlguiding UK which has managed it
since 1927. Drinkers
have a choice of three pubs here, the Higher Buck, Lower Buck and
Waddington Arms. Sadly the Moorcock on the road leading from the
village up to Waddington Fell closed some years ago and has since been
demolished. There is also a social club, a bowling green and a
Post Office. Cricket and football are regularly played on the
playing field.
