FOREST
OF BOWLAND The Trough of Bowland The centrepiece of the Forest of Bowland is the Trough of Bowland, a picturesque and remote valley runningsouth-east and north-west between, Dunsop Bridge and Quernmore part of the rural route between Clitheroe and Lancaster. Copper mining once took place here and the entrance to Syke's Copper Mine can still be seen where it is being dug out by one of the main caving clubs in the area. The Smelt Mill Residential Centre which provides outdoor recreation was formally a mine building. |
