STOCKS RESERVOIR Stocks Reservoir
Built
in 1932, Stocks Reservoir was opened by HRH Prince George, Duke of
Kent. A
3 foot (91 cm) guage railway linking with a railhead at Long Preston
was used in the construction of the reservoir.
At the head of the Hodder Valley, the reservoir is popular with walkers and there is a fly fishery which is well used during the summer months. The fishery has a tackle shop and café and there are 32 boats for hire by anglers. Part of Gisburn Forest, the reservoir is managed by United Utilities who supply drinking water to the North West of England. BACK |
