HELL HOLE
A small but
nasty vertical cave not far from Whitewell that lives up to it's name.
The
open shaft in a small wood is a 14m (47') ladder climb down to a dig in
the floor where things get a bit nasty as there is a blind rift and
climb down through a stempled hole and a rift leading to a 15m (50')
pitch.
Although nasty, the pothole is graded "moderate".
Hell
Hole is on the Duchy of Lancaster Estate. Permission is
required
from the Estate Office in Forton near Preston, Lancashire.
Nearby
are Whitewell Cave and Pot.
Midnight
trip to Hell Hole November 1985, temperature -7ºC!
