The small stown of Kirkby Lonsdale on the A65
Kendal to Skipton road is ideally situated between the

Home to almost two thousand people,
Kirkby Lonsdale has several outdoor shops, pubs,
hotels, convience stores and cafés, a hive of
activity compared to nearby Settle. June
sees the Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band Competition
and there is an Agricultural Show in August. The
first weekend in September is the Victorian Fair
and there is a Christmas Fair and Parade at the
beginning of December featuring Father Christmas.
Notable buildings include St. Mary's
Church. The view from the churchyard of the River
Lune is known as Ruskin's View. Main Street, Kirkby Lonsdale

Devil's Bridge is said to have been
built by the Devil himself after he appeared
before an old woman, promising to build a bridge
in exchange for the first soul to cross it. When
the bridge was finished she outwitted the Devil
by throwing bread across the bridge and her dog
chased after it.
Today the bridge is a Mecca for motorcyclists who
gather here on a Sunday.
