KEIGHLEY & WORTH VALLEY RAILWAY War Department BR 2-8-0 "Austerity" No. 90733 at Haworth Station The
Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is one of the most popular
preserved railways in the United Kingdom. Used in the filming of The Railway Children, the
standard guage line was closed in 1962 but a preservation society was
established the same year. On 29 June 1968 the Railway was re-opened
and the train that ran that day was the only one to operate on the
railway system due to a national rail strike. The Keighley & Worth
Valley Railway is operated as a complete branch line in it's original
form with a connection to the main rail system at Keighley. Stations include Damans which is the smallest standard guage railway station in the country and comes complete with waiting room, office and signal box lit by gas and heated by coal stoves. Another station, Oakworth was used in the original film of The Railway Children starring Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbens and like Damans is also lit by gas and heated by coal stoves. Oxenhope Station is the terminus of the railway. Scenes from the 2016 film Swallows & Amazons were also filmed on the railway as well as a scene from Alan Parker's Pink Floyd - The Wall which was filmed at Mytholmes Tunnel. The line attracts over 100,000 visitors a year drawn to the area by the spectacular countryside as well as the Brontė heritage.
