Muker
Delightful
small village a mile
(1.6km) east of Thwaite in Swaledale. This seemingly unimportant
village has certainly made it's mark on the northern Dales. Home of the
Muker Silver Band, Muker has a teashop, pub, craft shop, village store,
church, chapel and Post Office. The Swaledale Show takes place in Muker
every year on the first Wednesday of September.
Agriculture
is the main economy in Muker but lead mining became important in the
area during the late 18th and early 19th centuries with some old mines
still accessible explorers today.
A pint of beer can be enjoyed
at the
Farmers
Arms.
Swaledale
Woollens is based in Muker. |
