CRACKPOT CAVE

Perhaps the finest natural cave in Swaledale, Crackpot Cave is an easy trip with plenty of formations that have not suffered the same abuse as in other easily accessible caves.  The cave is situated above Summer Lodge where you can park.  Permission to visit can be obtained there.  The main entrance to the cave is now blocked but access is via the Kneewrecker Crawl which in spite of it's name is not long and leads into the large main passage which is well adorned with stalactites.  The highlight of the tour is the Column Chamber beyond which is a climb up into a smaller passage past The Bridge and into a chamber decorated with straws.
