BUNTING LEVEL

A bit further up from Sir Francis Level in Gunnerside Gill is the Bunting or Bunton Level, an interesting mine worth a visit along with Sir Francis.  The mine was first worked in the late 18th century.  A link with Sir Francis may be awaiting rediscovery and it may one day be possible to undertake a grand underground traverse to mines in Arkengarthdale a few miles away.
