STUMP CROSS CAVERNS

Show cave located on Greenhow Hill on the road between Grassington and Pateley Bridge.  Discovered by miners in 1860, there are over 4 miles (6km) of cave here about half a mile (800m) of which are open to the public.  Tours here are self-guided.
In 1963 Geoffery Workman spent 103 days underground here to study the effects of isolation on the body.
The tourist route was extended in the year 2000 to include the Reindeer Cavern.  Several fossils have been discovered in the caverns and include reindeer, wolverine and bison.
