Kettlewell North of Grassington is Kettlewell, a sizable village with everything for the tourist. It has three good pubs, cafés, guest houses and shops plus a Youth Hostel. At the far end of the village there is a camp site. Lead mining and smelting lead to growth of the village during the 18th and 19th centuries. A mile from Kettlewell is Scargill House, a Christian Conference Centre and community. Kettlewell featured heavily in the film 'Calendar Girls', as the location for the fictional village of Knapely. Every August a scarecrow festival takes place in Kettlewell. |
