Arncliffe is the largest
settlement in Littondale. Most of the houses,
cottages and the
Falcon pub are set out
around a large green in Littondale with their
backs to the surrounding fells.. In the centre of
the green is a quaint stone watering trough and
nearby is the church, school and Amerdale Hall,
used as a comunity centre and occassional live
performances. Along the north edge of the village
is the river Skirfare. Arncliffe

In spite of it's size,
less than a hundred people live here. Just to the
north of the village, where the road leaves for
litton is St. Oswald's church. Near the church a
repilica set of stocks were installed in 2003,
similar to the ones used to punish petty
criminals in centuries past.
Arncliffe was originally used for the setting of Beckindale
in the long-running
Independent Television soap opera, Emmerdale
Farm which has broadcast
since 1989 under it's shorter title, Emmerdale.Amerdale
