YORDAS
CAVE
Formally
a show cave, Yordas Cave is perhaps the easiest trip in the whole of
the Yorkshire Dales! Located in a small wood near the head of Kingsdale
the usual route is through a walking sized portal at the base of a rock
face into a large main chamber. To the right is the Chapter House,
where water enters the cave and is usually very wet.
For the more adventurous caver there is Yordas Pot, up on the hill
above the cave where
a 60 foot (20m) pitch drops down into a chamber the outlet of which is
a low crawl, rapidly increasing in height to the two short pitches down
into the Chapter House, an interesting short trip.
The cave is an ideal place for testing equipment such as lighting,
photographic gear and underground communications equipment due to it's
accessibility. |
