RUNSCAR CAVES
   
Runscar Caves and neighbouring Thistle Cave offers a series of easy through-trips popular with novice cavers.  Situated within sight of the spectacular Ribblehead Viaduct Runscar Cave is divided into four sections with the uppermost section, Runscar Cave now providing a route into Scar Top Cave whose original entrance is now blocked.  Cave No. 2 is a short passage some 110 feet (33m) long emerging above the upper entrance to the longest and easiest section, Cave No. 3, 400 feet (122m) of mostly walking and crawling to emerge from a prominent entrance in a small cliff.  The final section, Cave No. 4 leads some 270 feet (85m) to a resurgence.
