LONG CHURN CAVES

It is here at Long Churn Caves that many people get their first experience of a real caving trip. Popular with Scout, school, university and novice cavers Long Churn Cave has been the scene of many rescue call outs due to it's accessibility and apparant ease.
Upper Long Churn Cave is an easy through trip best undertaken from the upper entrance where a short rope-aided climb descends a waterfall into a large pool, Dr. Bannister's Handbasin followed by a walk back to daylight at the it shares with Lower Long Churn Cave.
Lower Long Churn Cave is one route into Alum Pot, a classic Yorkshire pot that can be descended directly on a long rope or ladder and offers the opportunity of an "exchange trip" between two parties of cavers.
Also part of the system is Diccan Pot, for the more serious caver which also leads into Alum Pot.
Lower Long Churn Cave is home to the Cheese Press, at less than 9" (about 22cm) high it is the ideal introduction to the most notorious of obstables in caving, the squeeze. The Cheese Press does not have to be negotiated on the trip but makes an interesting diversion for the brave at heart!
Above Upper Long Churn Cave is Borrins Moor Cave, another interesting system of passages for cavers of all abilities.
