For many visitors to the Dales Ingleton is the first place they come to. The village is popular with cavers, rock climbers and walkers mainly because of it's strategic location and also because there are several places that also cater for their needs.
Parking in Ingleton is seldom a problem, the road up past Inglesport has free parking for up to an hour while there is a play and display car park nearby.
White Scar Cave is one and a half miles (2.5km) from Ingleton and is the longest show cave in Britain, recently extended to the spectacular Battlefield Cavern.
There are four pubs in Ingleton and nearby Thornton in Lonsdale:

1. CRAVEN HEIFER: Main Street. Two bars, popular with cavers.Entertainment on Saturdays and carvery on Sundays.
2. MASONS FREEHOUSE: New Road. Recently refurbished, pool and darts. Thwaites beer.
3. THREE HORSE SHOES: Main Street. Popular with locals and tourists. Live music often performed. Thwaites beer.
4. WHEATSHEAF: Black Sheep, Moorhouses, Theakstons and guest beers served. Large pub near the top of the High Street.

A visit to Ingleton is not complete without undertaking the Waterfalls Walk, four and a half miles of scenic beauty though the Glens and past the Waterfalls of Ingleton including the classic Thornton Force. Allow at least three hours for the walk. A small fee is charged for the walk.

Inglesport.

Primarily a caving and outdoor shop, Inglesport stocks a wide range of clothing and equipment for the caver, mountaineer and walker. They also supply a wide range of related books, guides and magazines.  Inglesport Café upstairs is a popular meeting point for cavers at the start of a busy day underground.

Provides good filling meals ahead of a hard day's caving, especially after a heavy night at one of the local pubs!

In response to Inglesport's decision to open a cafe at their shop, some years ago, the previous owner Steve Roundstarted selling a small range of caving and outdoor gear.  Nowadays the café does soley food but the online caving shop is still active.

THORNTON IN LONSDALE Three quarters of a mile (1km) from Ingleton is Thornton In Lonsdale. This small group of houses, church and pub are just inside the National Park boundary. Sherlock Holme author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was married in St. Oswald's Church which has a set of stocks outside, once used for punishing petty offenders.
