SMALLCLEUGH MINE

Smallcleugh Mine on Alston Moor is one of the most extensive mines in the United Kingdom.  Started around 1770, mining continued there until the mid 1960's.  A highlight of the trip into Smallcleugh Mine is the Ballroom Flat where where 28 members of the local Masonic Lodge held a dinner in 1901.
