RAINOW
Rainow Large
village on the Peak District boundary in Cheshire between Macclesfield
and Whaley Bridge. The local Anglican church is the Holy Trinity
Church, built in 1845-46 out of buff sandstone and roofed with Welsh
slate. Nearby is Jenkin Chapel, an Anglican chapel which served the
packhorse trails. To the east of Rainow is Lamaload Reservoir, construction of which started in 1958 and filled in 1964. On Kerridge Hill is White Nancy, an interesting structure built to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo. In 2018 the face of The Fall's Mark E. Smith was painted on White Nancy soon after his death which put an end to the band.
