Straddling
the border between north east Lancashire and North Yorkshire are the
Bowland fells, the
main part of the Forest of Bowland only
half an
hour's drive from the cities of Preston and Lancaster.
At the heart
of the Forest of Bowland is Slaidburn, an attractive village nestled
amongst the hills and
yes, there are a few caves, Whitewell
Cave and Pot and one that lives up to it's name, Hell Hole.
Wards Stone is the highest point in the
Forest of Bowland at 1,841 feet (561m) above seal level. Much
of the Forest of Bowland is within the
Duchy of
Lancaster Estate which includes Whitewell and it's Inn
which is considered one of the finest
public houses in the United
Kingdom.
